Immaculate Conception & St. Wenceslaus’ Religious Education Program is offered for Kindergarten through 6th-grade students. This program strives to deepen students’ understanding and practice of the Catholic faith. Religious Education classes are meant to be an extension of the catechesis done in the home and assist parents in raising their children in the faith. These classes also prepare our students in 2nd grade to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We use the Spirit of Truth Curriculum from Sophia Institute and various exploration activities to form students in their prayer life, strengthen their general knowledge of the faith, and foster excitement about Jesus Christ. We look forward to helping you and your children grow in your relationship with Jesus.

First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion Preparation

Grade: 2nd Grade (7 Years old)
Coordinator: Zorida Vega, Director of Faith Formation
Location: Immaculate Conception/St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church

Regular reception of First Holy Communion occurs around 7 years of age or 2nd grade. If your student is older than 7 or past 2nd grade, they will need to be in our RCIC ( Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) Class which takes place at the same time as the regular Religious Education classes.

There are several ways for your child to prepare for this sacrament:

  • Public School: 2nd graders in public schools must be enrolled in regular religious education classes. The 2nd-grade class will spend most of the time preparing for the Reconciliation and reception of Holy Communion in the spring.
  • Catholic School (2nd Grade): While students enrolled in Catholic schools receive sacramental preparation as part of their school curriculum, they are still welcome to attend the sacramental preparation classes offered through the Religious Education at our parishes.
  • Catholic School (1st Grade): If your child is in 1st Grade and will be 7 by the date of First Holy Communion, they must complete the 2nd Grade Religious Education course at the church, as they are not receiving this specific preparation at school.
  • Homeschool: Homeschool students are also invited to participate in religious education at the parish in addition to their schooling at home. They may prepare for the sacraments as part of their homeschooling curriculum in consultation with the Director of Faith Formation.

All students preparing for their First Holy Communion should register with the parish through the Online Registration Form or contact the parish offices to register. Regardless of their form of preparation, all students are asked to attend the annual First Holy Communion Retreat. The First Communion Mass will be the Sunday after Divine Mercy Sunday each year.
